Welcome to our series on the “Top Dance Songs of 2013”, our annual series where we distill the year’s best Electronic Dance Music (EDM) into a multi-podcast listening experience.
Condensing a year’s worth of phenomenal EDM into these four installments is no small feat. Certain tracks might be overlooked or not make the cut, while the inclusion of others could raise some eyebrows. Our process of selection is informed by a blend of Beatport and the Billboard Dance Club chart, personal preferences, audience vibes, and feedback from fans across various platforms.
Our “Top Dance Songs of 2013” list features a variety of engaging tracks, such as Katy Perry’s “Roar” (Cosmic Dawn Club Remix) and Rihanna’s “The Monster” featuring Eminem (Majestic Audio Bootleg). We’ve also included Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” featuring T.I. & Pharrell (The Thin Red Men Club Mix), a song that had people grooving all through 2013.
Tegan & Sara’s “Closer” (Sultan & Ned Shepard Remix) and Fatboy Slim & Riva Starr’s “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat” (Calvin Harris Mix) have also found a place on our compilation. Even pop crossover hits like Will.I.Am’s “Scream & Shout” featuring Britney Spears (Deen Creed Remix) grace our “Top Dance Songs of 2013” list, showcasing the wide range of styles and genres that came together to shape the year in EDM.
It’s all subjective, open to debate and dependent on one’s personal preferences. As an example, while “Gangnam Style” made our list in the previous year, Ylvis’ “The Fox” didn’t, due to its divisive reception. What one listener might find catchy, another might deem annoying, as we experienced when including it on Jingle Electric a few weeks ago.
