BPM Edition 2010 Volume 2 | Take 1

As the days just keep getting better, so does the need to P-A-R-T-Y like it’s 2010! In keeping with that theme, I’m serving up volume 2 of the BPM Edition.

Kicking things off is the latest from Lifehouse. While we all know this group as the mainstay of Top 40 meat and potatoes rock, their latest effort stays true to their roots, with hooks aplenty. Jody Den Broeder takes a shot at it and delivers a surprisingly delicious dance production that even I had to take notice.

We also get Adam Lambert’s second release with the Pink-penned tune “Whataya Want From Me” with Fonzerelli doing the remix honors. This is just one of several great songs off of his amazing debut “For Your Entertainment.” What’s sad is that ATL pop radio frankly sucks donkey dongs. This is a city of over 11 million people and instead of being on the cutting edge, we have two pop stations that play virtually the exact same thing and don’t even put a song into rotation until it hits the top twenty. With no alternative and dance radio stations, this market is ripe for picking. As such, I have yet to hear Adam on the radio, but am tortured by Kris Allen’s relatively lame “Live Like You Were Dying.” Whateva!

It’s been a long while since we got anything new from the “Milkshake” girl Kellis, but her latest “Acapella” is simply amazing! Fantastic vocals and an amazing production by Dave Aude, this is a surefire crowd pleaser.

After the success of last year’s “Patron Tequila” by the Paradiso Girls comes the latest drinking song “Sex on the Beach” by Spanker. In fact, I think we may be seeing a trend here that will get old pretty quick. What’s next, a song about Corona? Oh wait, that’s already been done. How about Budweiser instead? Regardless, this is a fun song as is “Something Like a Party” by newcomers School Gyrls. Think Britney times 3 still pulling off the little parochial school girl look ten years later. Clearly aimed at the Ke$sha market, this too will get old.

Finally, I want to give a shout out to the UK’s Rachel Ellektra. I’m really digging a lot of her work lately and “Playing with Knives” featuring the vocals of the amazing Angie Brown is pure hard hitting house bliss! Keep an eye out for her, because you will definitely be hearing more of her work in any given club in the very near future.

That’s ‘bout all I got for today. I’ll be back tomorrow with part 2 and hopefully Sunday with the “on the house” special, part 3. Until then, enjoy!
