We’ve reached the end of our 2022 Gay Anthems For A New Generation series, and this final set goes out with a bang.
For Volume 3, I reached back through the past decade for newer gay anthems and blended them with updated versions of beloved classics. The result connects different generations of LGBTQ+ dance music while keeping everything fresh and relevant for today’s dancefloors.
Classic Gay Anthems Get a Tech-House Makeover
I couldn’t resist dropping in a couple of recent Tech House tracks that sample two iconic gay anthems: “The Underground” by Celeda and “Work” by Masters At Work.
These nearly 20-year-old floor-scorchers have been given a new lease on life, proving once again how great dance records can be reinvented for another generation without losing what made them special in the first place.
That’s really the concept behind this entire series. I’ve spent countless hours digging through decades of modernized classics, newer interpretations, and contemporary queer favorites to find tracks that work together as a cohesive set.
Building the Ultimate Collection of Gay Anthems
When it comes to comprehensive compilations of this material, you’re unlikely to find anything quite like it on Spotify or Apple Music. I’ve left very few stones unturned in putting together what I consider the ultimate collection of gay anthems.
It’s not simply a playlist of familiar songs. The versions matter. The sequencing matters. The transitions matter. Most importantly, the history behind these songs and what they’ve meant to generations of LGBTQ+ people matters.
Others may put together their own versions of these collections—and occasionally borrow a little too heavily from what I’ve already done—but I’m not going to dwell on that.
Celebrating Our Music, History and Pride
Instead, I want to thank everyone who has supported Party Favorz over the years. Your support has made it possible for me to spend the countless hours required to create these compilations celebrating our lives, loves, history, and shared experiences.
As Gay Pride approaches, I hope everyone has an incredible celebration.
And to our allies who have never attended a Pride parade, go at least once and make a day of it. The energy, music, community, and sheer joy of the experience are something everyone should witness firsthand.
