Well folks, I finally got the Holiday Edition out…and what a whopper it is! Initially, I was concerned when the Promo Only Mainstream Club series came out in December. I looked at the track listings and just shouted what the F!$%^! I think the guys over at Promo Only have been taking kickbacks from the big labels to pay for their meth habit.
I mean, c’mon, Enrique Iglesias, Backstreet Boys, and Leann Rimes??? They are so nineties. Oh, and the only time an alternative group needs to be remixed is if they have a massive crossover hit on the charts. Mixing unknowns and pushing it to the clubs doesn’t translate into Alternative radio play, much less top 40. They had about three maybe four of these on there. If no one has heard of the group, who gives a shit. And so, I’ll digress.
So I started cumulating and listening to a lot of new music to put this together. Frankly, I’m really excited about the finished mix. The first side is pretty much mainstream tech house, with some current favs and up-and-comers. Debbie Harry is always a sure bet. Britney, well what can I say; the song is really catchy. So catchy in fact, I put the Vasquez & Vicious Mix on disc 2. As it is, I don’t think Britney has enough exposure.
As you move through the mix it begins to toughen up. Watch out for the “Cure and The Cause” by Fish Go Deep and “Undisco Me” by Billy Ray Martin. Both songs are on my Ipod Worthy List right now. The Billy Ray song has been hot in the UK for some time and is just now making it this way. Gonna be BIG!
Side two is more mainstream progressive/circuit. The kind I’ve been whining about lately. However, I really like this side. While Tony Moran has been all over the place this year (too much of a good thing can leave a bad taste in your mouth, it’s been nice to see Hex Hector get back into the game. Probably the first mix from Beyonce that wasn’t produced by Freemasons.
Also good to see Liquid 360, haven’t heard from them since their awesome remix of Nelly Furtado’s Turn Out The Lights back in 2000. I also need to give some props to Tracy Young. She’s never been a favorite of mine, but her remix of Defying Gravity by Idina Menzel from earlier this year and now Sara Atereth has earned her some serious respect. In fact, she turns it out on the latter.
We also get to see Warren Rigg stretch his wings and work with someone other than Tony Moran. This time he’s working with an unfamiliar name; Reed McGowen. The song “Head Over Heels” (no, not a Go-Go’s remake) is by Sylvia Tosun. What an amazing song this is. I smell a major hit spilling over, well into next year.
Also, I want to let everyone know that I’m working on a massive year-end mix. You know, kind of a best of 2007. I’ll provide details on that later. For now, have at it…this is the mix everyone has been waiting for. Enjoy!
