A Personal Update and What’s Ahead for Party Favorz
Good morning folks! As the days start getting longer and we slowly move into another season of sunshine, I wanted to give everyone a quick update on my recovery and the current status of Party Favorz.
After my hospitalization in January, I was sent home and placed on around-the-clock antibiotic drip therapy. For those unfamiliar with the process, I had a PIC line implanted in my arm. Rick had to go through a careful routine every time he connected the antibiotic bag so the medication could slowly drip into my system and fight the infection in my leg.
Every connection required sterilizing the port and line before hooking anything up. When the bag finished, he had to flush the line with saline and another solution to prevent blockages or a secondary infection.
We repeated that entire process every eight hours. Day and night. For about six weeks.
It was exhausting, but it worked. The infection was finally knocked out, which made the whole ordeal worth it.
Throughout all of this, Rick has been my rock and stabilizer. If it weren’t for him, I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten through it. There were moments where I felt like giving up entirely, but he kept everything moving forward and made sure I stayed on track.
The Ongoing Recovery Process
Recovery didn’t stop once the antibiotics were finished. A nurse has been coming in twice a week to change wound dressings, while physical and occupational therapists visit once a week to help rebuild strength and mobility.
On top of that, I make weekly trips to the wound clinic so the doctor can monitor progress. Add in appointments with vascular specialists, infectious disease doctors, and pain management, and the schedule can feel overwhelming at times.
Some days I honestly just don’t feel like dealing with appointments or visitors. There are also other challenges during recovery that people rarely talk about. I’ll spare everyone the unpleasant details, but let’s just say I’m relearning how to deal with some basic daily functions that most folks take for granted.
What Happens Next
The next step happens this week. I have an outpatient angioplasty scheduled for Wednesday, which means a brutal 4:30 a.m. wake-up call. That procedure alone requires a $4,000 payment upfront.
Then on Monday I finally meet with the plastic surgery group I was referred to for evaluation. The general surgeon who treated me in the hospital told me I’d likely be a strong candidate for this team because of the extensive damage to my leg.
Many of you saw the photos earlier, so there’s no need to revisit them here.
The reconstructive work could run upwards of $13,000 or more. My hope is that catastrophic coverage will kick in, since Rick and I earn too much to qualify for the hospital’s usual financial assistance programs. So right now we’re crossing our fingers and hoping that works out.
Why So Many Mixes Recently?
You might be wondering how I managed to crank out so many mixes for Party Favorz since getting out of the hospital.
The answer is simple: my sleep schedule went completely off the rails.
My Gabapentin dosage increased, which is a neurological medication that tends to cause brain fog and dizziness. I was waking up around 4:00 every morning and needed Rick’s help getting out of bed and into my wheelchair.
Once I was up, I’d make coffee, put on one of my favorite podcasts, and get to work on whatever mix was next in line. Those early mornings turned into my quiet production window. I really hope y’all have enjoyed my output.
That schedule helped me knock out quite a few episodes, but going forward things will slow down a bit.
Party Favorz Moving to a Bi-Weekly Schedule
Because of upcoming procedures and appointments, Party Favorz will shift to releasing episodes every two weeks for now. That said, there are still a lot of mixes already lined up through April.
First up is Spring Break 2026, our annual entry in the Club Fusion series. This mix celebrates the week students head off to their favorite destinations — Florida, South Texas, Mexico, and everywhere in between. Expect a full-on party set designed for beaches, pool decks, and late-night dance floors.
Next up will be the newest installment of the BackSpin series, which focuses on millennial dance classics. The reception for this series has been tremendous since I launched it, so I’m excited to keep building it out.
We’ll also see the Spring Edition 2026 installment of the Circuit & Anthems series. BackSpin usually runs three volumes, so I’m still deciding how best to space those releases out.
Looking Toward Summer
Even with the slower schedule, some big episodes are still coming down the pipeline.
May will likely bring the next Funky House set. Then by Memorial Day weekend we’ll kick off the annual Gay Pride mixes, which have become a tradition for Party Favorz over the years.
I haven’t fully decided the direction yet, but Gay Anthems for a New Generation will definitely return as part of the lineup.
In short, there’s still a lot of great music ahead as we roll toward summer.
The Story Behind the Artwork
Some of you may notice that the featured image for this post looks very similar to the artwork used for Chill Out Sessions Winter 2026.
That image was actually the original concept for the cover. In the end, I decided to use the wheelchair version because it better reflects where I am right now. It also serves as a more inclusive representation of the disability community.
And yes — I created the image myself using AI. I’ve been getting better with prompts and image generation, and I’m pretty proud of the results. I’m planning to pursue Google and Microsoft certifications in AI over the coming months so I can continue building those skills.
Don’t worry though — I’m still good at time management. There’s plenty of time for music.
