Classic Circuit Anthems: Strict Machine
A visit to Ian, the Starbucks hottie, and a little crisp morning air put me in the mood for some big room drama. That brings us to Strict Machine, the fourth and final set in our Classic Circuit Anthems series.
This finale goes all in on the sound that made these records unforgettable: commanding vocals, long builds, and the kind of payoff that could lift an entire dance floor.
Paula Cole’s “I Believe in Love”
The Jonathan Peters remix of Paula Cole’s “I Believe in Love” is a centerpiece of the set. At roughly 14 minutes, it takes its time building the tension. Paula’s vocals soar over a driving beat, and Peters gives every dramatic turn room to land.
Finding a copy that sounded right was a challenge, so I spent extra time working with the audio for this mix. It was worth the effort. This is exactly the sort of larger-than-life remix a Classic Circuit Anthems finale calls for.
Kim English’s “Unspeakable Joy”
Then there’s Kim English’s “Unspeakable Joy”, with Razor ’n’ Guido behind its unmistakable circuit sound. I tightened its place in the mix and trimmed some of the extra drops. The remaining breaks have more room to make an impact, while Kim’s uplifting vocal keeps the momentum going.
Strict Machine closes this four-set journey with the drama, joy, and sheer scale that defined classic gay circuit anthems. Turn it up, settle in, and let the music do its thing.
