I’m back with volume 4 of Gay Pride Anthems for 2017 titled A Little Respect.
As usual, this set is packed with massive Gay Anthems in their original glory days format plus several alternate mixes and a couple that has never been included in previous efforts.
I will say that Faith Evans’s “Mesmerized” is the ONLY reason I’m still here today doing what I do. Between 2004 and 2005, I was putting in 60-70 hour work weeks for AT&T and was not feeling the dance music landscape. At the time, dance music had taken a dark turn and even shiny happy songs were being turned into these doom-and-gloom 10-minute epics of despair that just weren’t my style.
It wasn’t until the end of 2005 that a friend and I went out to the bars when Rick had gone back to Texas for his niece’s Quinceañera. When I heard the remix of Mesmerized and subsequently Loving You More, I was so blown away I had to do the one thing you just don’t do. That is, pester the DJ about the title, artist, and remixer of the songs. Freemasons were making a name for themselves right about the time Moto Blanco was doing the same. Suddenly, I got that itch because house music was evolving into something that made me happy, and I wanted to dance.
I’ve gone back and revisited those lost years (2004 and 2005) with the Year In Dance and have more appreciation for the work of Gabriel & Dresden, Scumfrog, Chus & Ceballo, etc. than I did at the time. No doubt, there are some classic gems these guys produced at the time and it’s worth revisiting those years. Looking back it wasn’t all doom and gloom; it just felt that way.
With all that said, I’m proud to present to you the next installment of the 2017 Gay Pride Anthems. I’ve got one to go in this classic series set for tomorrow and then we cap it all off with the AMAZING set of anthems geared toward millennials
