System Edition 2009 Volume 3 [Take 4]

We’ve reached the fourth set for this edition.  I’m guessing it will be quite a while before I do another System Edition since I have other things on tap for May.  This final set takes a decidedly different approach to yesterday’s lush and atmospheric mix.  In fact, I’d say that this is more alternative and experimental underground house than anything else.  Granted, the hooks are there, but sometimes you need to look for them.  Don’t expect a lot of vocals in this set either.  To me, this is as cold and electronic as it can get.  Granted, I have to be in the mood for these types of songs, and last night I guess I was because I was just rocking out to the beats.  I’ve got a lot going on today so I’m not going to spend any time discussing the songs on the mix.  Suffice to say that it may not be for everyone.  However, if you enjoy quirky beats without the dreamy landscape, this one is definitely for you!

In my previous post I mentioned that I was not happy with the way the second set came out and that after further listening, the problem was with many of the songs.  I just wasn’t feeling much of it.  So, I took the first set and dropped a few songs and the second set and dropped many more, then combined the mixes.  That’s how it will stay in my library.  I’ll be happy to post it tomorrow if I receive enough requests, otherwise, I’ll just leave everything as is and start working on the next Chrome Edition 2002.

After more rain and thunderstorms last night, it looks like today is going to be a gorgeous day.  In fact, we’re now starting to see temperatures climb into the mid-80s and today is going to be a scorcher.  Frankly, I welcome the warm-up but will be bitching about the heat and longing for fall by August…LOL.  I know, finicky bitch.  I also have a couple of reminders: 1) If you haven’t signed up for my Facebook Fan Page yet, please go over there and do that now.  It’s not finished yet, but should be by the weekend.  I plan on running contests from there and not this site, that will be strictly for the fans.  So if you don’t want to miss out…2)  I’m calling all fans of Kristine W to submit your questions.  I’ll be interviewing her next month and would like to get every fan the opportunity to ask a question.  You can either leave your question in the comments section of this post or email me at kjamproductions@gmail.com.  Make sure you leave your first name, city, and state, so I know who to attribute the question to during the interview process.  I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.  I will be back sometime next week with the next installment of the Chrome Edition.  Until then…enjoy!

System Edition 2009 Volume 3 [Take 3]

I have to tell you that I have been listening to this mix over and over and barely scraped the first two.  While I really like the first take of this edition, I was having a very difficult time with the second.  I sat down last night and listened to it all the way through, and it was a hard pill to swallow.  How many times have you ever heard a DJ fess up about the poor quality of song choices used in a mix?  Probably never.  I’ll be listening to the fourth and final mix tonight since I haven’t even touched on that one yet.  If it’s as good as this one, then I may go back on Saturday and combine the best elements of the first two mixes to make one single mix and then re-post it.  If I do that, then the first two will be removed.  It’s my anal-retentive nature to perfect on something that otherwise could be much better.  Either way, I’ll let you know in tomorrow’s post.

For now, this mix is rock solid from start to finish.  It’ starts out with a bang and pumps the pulse straight from your ears down to your toes!  Word of warning, this is NSFW.  The first three songs drop the “F” bomb repeatedly; so if you wanna play this back while working you might want to cue it at the fifth song to prevent offending your colleagues.  After the booty shaking romp of the first quarter of the mix, the tone drops a little into the massive “Devil Toy” by Hoxton Whores.  If the song sounds all too familiar, that’s because it is basically a pumped-up dub version of the classic “Make the World Go Round” by Sandy B.  Original? Not.  But, it’s a lot of fun.  Moving on, we get into what has already proven to be a massive track in all its forms by Faithless, “Music Matters”.  The Axwell mix does more justice than you can imagine.  In fact, I think if this song were housed up a bit, this could potentially be a major crossover.  Simplistic, but certainly beautiful.  That flows right into “Atlas” by Digital Enemy and Carl Hanaghan.  The Vision mix is a true testament to his diversity.  Thereafter, we move into some more indie progressive mixes with Arno Cost and Avicii, which provide some great male vocals without sounding cheesy.  Avicii’s “Excited” helps levitate us back into the heavier and deeper “Pa Po Pon” by Mowgli.  Robbie Rivera is at the top of his game with this floor filler.  Purposely repetitive, it will stick in your head like glue long after it’s over.  Finally, we switch gears to what I might consider a more commercial prog house with Kleerup and Bad Boy Bill.  “Longing For Lullabies” and “Falling Anthem” are both serious contenders for radio play and insidiously catchy.  Finally, we drop back down to the low tempo “Panama” by Yvel and Tristan.  Its simplistic beauty will wash out everything that came before and make you forget you just took a long journey through the underground; albeit an enjoyable ride and worth taking again.

That’s all I got on tap today.  Don’t forget I’ve started a “Party Favorz Fan Page” on Facebook.  So if you haven’t signed up yet, whatcha waiting for?  I’ll be back tomorrow with the final set in this series.  I’ll let everyone know tomorrow what I decide on the first two mixes.  Until then…enjoy!
