Whitney Houston: A Dance Mix Tribute to the Diva of the Dancefloor

Whitney Houston is a name that needs no introduction in the realm of music, particularly when it comes to redefining the dance floor experience. Dubbed the “Queen of Pop and Soul,” her legacy is one that blends vocal mastery with an undeniable presence, lighting up both the charts and our hearts. Though Miss Houston has left us, her impact reverberates in each remix and every foot-tapping beat, solidifying her place in our Diva Hall of Fame.

Whitney’s rise to stardom was brilliantly orchestrated by the industry maestro, Clive Davis. Recognizing the untapped potential of his artist roster, Davis envisioned them as the ultimate dance floor divas. A strategic alliance with top DJs like Thunderpuss, Hex Hector, and Junior Vasquez, to name a few, turned this vision into an electrifying reality.

Take “It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay” as remixed by Thunderpuss, for example. The song originally showcased Whitney’s soulful voice and emotional depth. However, when Thunderpuss got their hands on it, the track transformed into a dance floor anthem, pulsating with vivacious beats without losing its original emotional gravitas. The outcome? A spellbinding fusion of artistry and adrenaline that only Whitney could deliver.

Clive Davis was not alone in his journey to elevate Whitney’s music. Remixers like Hex Hector also played pivotal roles, contributing mixes like “I Will Always Love You” that enveloped us in a symphony of synths and snares, making us feel as though Whitney was serenading us right there on the dance floor. Other notable remixes include “I’m Every Woman” by Clivilles & Cole and “So Emotional” by David Morales, each imbued with a unique blend of rhythm and Whitney’s unparalleled vocals.

Creating a cohesive listening experience for an audience already entranced by Whitney’s voice was a challenge, one that Jonathan Peters faced head-on. His versions of “Same Script, Different Cast” (duet with label mate Deborah Cox) and “My Love Is Your Love” managed to distill Whitney’s essence while innovating with distinct timing and beats. The result? A dynamic flow that keeps audiences riveted from start to finish.

As we pay tribute to Whitney Houston, we’re reminded that she was much more than her incredible voice. She was an artist who could captivate, inspire, and move us in a way few ever could. While our hearts were shattered by her untimely passing, her songs and remixes offer a sanctuary, a space where we can celebrate her extraordinary legacy.

Until the next time…ENJOY!

I want to apologize for freaking any of you out about the surgery. I’d swear I brought this up a couple of months ago.  Regardless, this is a good thing, not bad.  I’m not dying, suffering, or otherwise.  What this is for me is a game changer in my life.  I am fortunate to have met a physician who is going to have it done for me pro bono, which is the reason school was nixed this semester.  Insurance won’t cover the procedure and when an opportunity like this slaps you in the face, you stand up and pay attention.  So, all is well and no need for concern.

I also thought I’d take a little time to publicize my stats for the last 30 days at Podbean.  Currently, I am 100,000+ downloads and streaming of my sets since the beginning of the year.  More importantly, here are my stats for the last 30 days alone:

As promised, I’m sending up my latest funky/soulful house set sprinkled with a hefty dose of Nu Disco.  As you can see, I brought lollipop girl out of retirement and played dress-up Barbie by changing out her tube top and shorts.  After all, I couldn’t have her smelling like a skank.LOL!  I was jamming to this last night and am all about the music in this mix.  Frankly, I think this is a nice counter to the circuit-driven Autumn Edition that I’ll be juxtaposing it with throughout the week.  Take notice of the Freemasons’ 2009 mix of “Love On My Mind”.  Originally released in 2005, this worldwide smash gets a makeover and lends more to the original #1 disco classic “This Time Baby” from which it sampled.  Unfortunately, Freemasons dropped that part in at the end of the song, making it more of a cock tease of what’s possibly to come between now and next summer.  So, I edited it down to the point for those familiar with the original, which will certainly give you a hard-on for more.  For now, Eddie X and Niki Haris have done a remake that will show up on my next Autumn Edition, even though it doesn’t quite live up to the original, it’s on its way to becoming a huge hit.

I don’t want to sit around typing all day, so I’ll just let this set speak for itself.  I’ll be back on Monday with part two of the Autumn mix.  Until then, enjoy!
