Party Favorz is back with Volume 4 of Pride Dance Classics, and the result is geared squarely toward Gen X and early Millennials who came of age during the golden era of gay club culture.
For this volume, I leaned more heavily into the big room circuit sound without going completely overboard, which made the track selection a little easier to manage. You’ll find plenty of gay anthems and classic Gay Pride favorites that should bring back more than a few memories.
An Unofficial Best of the Diva Hall of Fame
As I’ve mentioned before, this series is probably the closest you’ll ever get to a “best of” the Diva Hall of Fame, something listeners have requested from me for years.
What makes these Pride Dance Classics particularly special is the opportunity to recognize all those leading ladies I never got around to officially inducting—or simply wasn’t certain belonged in a full Diva Series of their own.
The Women Who Soundtracked Our Gay Lives
That list includes Jeanie Tracy, Kimberly Davis, Anastacia, Suzanne Palmer, Paula Cole, Shania Twain, Heather Small of M People, Judy Cheeks, Alison Limerick, Lara Fabian, Nelly Furtado, Debby Holiday, Amber, Goldfrapp, Sarah Atereth, Deborah Cooper, Beth Sacks, Pepper MaShay, Andra Day, Latanza Waters, CeCe Peniston, Sabrina Johnston, Shawn Christopher, Soraya Vivian of Degrees of Motion, Thelma Houston, and many more.
At one point or another, these women provided the soundtrack to our breakups, hookups, celebrations, heartbreaks, Pride weekends, and all the drama in between. It’s impossible for me to personally acknowledge every artist who contributed to the soundtrack of gay nightlife, but their impact shouldn’t be overlooked.
An Honorary Induction for Our Pride Dance Divas
Consider this series their honorary induction into the Party Favorz Diva Hall of Fame and a heartfelt acknowledgment of what their music has meant to generations of us.
From the bottom of our little queer hearts—we thank them.
One More Volume of Pride Dance Classics
We have one more set to go, featuring the remaining Hi-NRG and house music tracks before moving into Gay Anthems For A New Generation.
That should allow us to wrap up the classic side of Party Favorz’s 2022 Gay Pride offerings before shifting the spotlight to the newer generation of anthems.
